Our History

Doug McCain invented the label-forward wine rack out of need. He had the type of annoying problem that all wine collectors face: His traditional, cork-forward method of storing his valued wine collection left a lot to be desired in terms of functionality and design. Try finding a specific bottle out of 3,000 when all you can see are corks and you’ll understand the dilemma he shared with serious wine collectors as well as service-industry professionals.

So he headed out to the shop outside his Castle Rock, Co., home and built the first “vintage view” wine rack by hand, welding and bending some scrap metal to meet his needs. It looked good.

Soon after, friends saw the new style wine rack and wanted label-forward racks in their own cellars. Doug quickly started welding to meet demand, and a Colorado company was born. Since 2001, tens of millions of bottles of wine have been stored in VintageView racks.
