Recent interior design trends focus on incorporating natural light as much as possible. And what better way to have a bright and beautiful space than drawing the attention to the windows!
Our Metrie Masters know just how to utilize architraves, bold casing, and other interior finishings to really enhance a window. Take a closer look at their designs to get ideas to take your windows from bland to grand.
G.A. White Homes
It’s no secret that we love G.A. White Homes’ work, in fact, they were one of our 2017 Builder & Designer Challenge Peoples’ Choice winners. They consistently design cozy, earthy rooms that reflect their environment, and this office in the woods is no different. With a full wall of windows behind the heavy desk, this room invites the outside in for those times you need a quick daydream to get creative.
For an unobstructed view, the designer used prairie style windows for a crisp detail that floods the room with light and a splendid view of nature. Very Square casing and panel mould frames the windows, which span from the baseboard to just under the crown moulding. This bank of windows sets the tone for the rest of the room, which uses earth-toned colors and clean lines throughout.

Shine Remodeling & Construction
How is it that a living room—with simple furniture and decor, mind you—still feels complete? Shine Remodeling & Construction, a 2017 Peoples’ Choice winner, knows the secret: interior finishings and window treatments create a well-rounded, finished canvas.
This space uses our Fashion Forward Collection throughout the entire home but most strikingly in the two-story living room; calling out the gorgeous windows. A creative combination of chair rail and panel mould boxes are rippling throughout the space and underneath the windows, leading into bold baseboard. Architraves are topping off the windows, and we can’t help but bring our attention upwards to the continuing natural light and crown moulding. We wouldn’t dream of covering these windows with drapes, blinds or shutters.
The living room in this Hamptons-inspired home, designed by Icon Construction, is so elegant and spacious that we’re just going to go ahead and call it a great room; everything here is larger than life, from the windows to the interior finishings.
The coffered ceiling, flourishes, practically drawing the eyes in the direction of the column detailing on the wall, and almost-full-length windows drawing in more light from the back porch. This living room is classic take on sophisticated design, incorporating our Fashion Forward Collection.
Mangiacotti Design and Development
It may seem obvious, but a floor-to-ceiling window in a two-story living room is an absolute show-stopper!
This spectacular Boston home, designed by Mangiacotti, takes advantage of our Very Square Collection to ground the clean picture windows that span the height of the room, and the Collection was used again for the baseboard and crown moulding. The white on white palette paired with dazzling decor elements have certainly left a lasting impression on us!
If you’re considering foregoing drapes and blinds in favor of natural light and architectural interest, be sure to take a cue from these Metrie Masters and make use of interior finishings to liven up your windows and your home’s overall look!
We’re always in awe of the creative and beautiful ways builders and designers use our products to turn rooms into stunning, finished spaces. Each month this year, we’re featuring amazing spaces from the Every Room Tells A Story — 2017 Builder & Designer Challenge because these participants truly have artfully mastered Metrie interior finishings, thus them being dubbed as Metrie Masters, and their work deserves to be celebrated.
